This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to research and develop own ideas about light and colour for integration into a body of creative work.

It applies to individuals who have expertise in the use of light and colour and work across art forms and design disciplines. This expertise may be applied in traditional or digital contexts. At this level, the individual works independently and has demonstrated expertise within a body of professional creative work.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at time of publication.

2. Develop own ideas about light and colour

2.3 Develop informed opinions about the use of light and colour in own work and the work of others

2.4 Examine the ways in which digital technology influences the use of light and colour in own practice

3.1 Manipulate light and colour in own work to achieve different effects

Evidence of the ability to:

research the use of light and colour, both within and beyond the creative arts and design context

develop an individual approach to the use of light and colour in own work

produce a coherent body of professional artwork that shows a command of light and colour.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

list and describe sources of information and ideas relevant to own practice

explain the historical and contemporary use of light and colour in own area of creative practice

explain how light and colour are used in other creative contexts and more broadly in the areas of business, science and technology

outline commonly used research methodologies for artists

outline the requirements of intellectual property and other legislation associated with arts practice.

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:

various information sources

equipment and tools used to produce design work.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
